Last fall, I attended an anniversary party for my cousin - and her best friend wore this dress in a gorgeous silver. It looked great on her, and then I noticed another person at the party was wearing it in a different color! At the time, I was struggling with what to wear for a formal event, so I looked it up as soon as I got home.

It was a struggle to choose a color, because they all looked great! I went with emerald green, one of my favorites. Guys, when I got this dress - my jaw hit the floor. It's SO beautiful in person and it fits like a glove. It's modest, but not frumpy. Comfortable, and not clingy. It just checks all the boxes.

Plus the price is SO good. I'm pretty sure it was on sale when I bought it, but it's still a great price even when it's not discounted.

I wore it to our friend's formal wedding, and I think I got the most compliments I've ever gotten on a dress. You'll be seeing it again on my cruise recap, because what a perfect dress to pack for formal night.

The Amazon Dress You Need For Any Event!

Thursday, April 25, 2024

As I have assessed my closet, I noticed I was really missing some fresh spring/summer tops in my wardrobe. I popped into Old Navy one Friday morning and was able to score several tops and thought I'd share!

This first one has actually been in my closet for a couple of weeks! I bought it in black as well, but it wasn't until this try on session that I realized I grabbed the wrong size. So, the black one is going back to be exchanged. (It was the only one I didn't try on in the store because I already knew I liked it! If I had, I would have seen the hanger didn't match the tag.)

This next top, I bought in 2 colors! It's called the Bestee and I totally think that's the perfect name. It's an ideal tee shirt, and I am loving the more cropped fit with my high rise jeans. I went for the rust color, and the cream striped options. 10/10

Next up is the BEST square neck body suit. It's fab. I appreciate the smoothness and the perfect fit. An excellent layering piece!

This next top is great, but I would not pair it with these jeans. It's a bit longer and ribbed, so my jeans underneath makes for a lumpier look, haha. Super pretty teal color, and I can see this paired with a lot of different outfits.

I don't have a photo, but I also wanted to share this top! I got it in the forest green color, and it's a really great shirt for summer!

Old Navy Top Haul

Monday, April 22, 2024

In case you missed it, 2 of my cousins and I are attempting to cook our way through the Dinner Tonight Cookbook together. We are taking turns choosing a recipe to make, and are reporting back to each other via text.

I've got 2 recipes to share with you for weeks 11 and 12! We did the Greek Inspired Chicken and Orzo Bake and the Mojo Pork Tenderloin.

Both of these recipes were really good! Instead of orzo, I used penne pasta because that's what I had on hand. It was definitely a full skillet, but absolutely delish. So so fragrant too. For the mojo pork - I made this for my brother and sister in law when they were in town. It was a crowd pleaser for sure. Both my mom and my brother wanted the recipe for the green sauce. It's a really yummy, versatile sauce. We served the pork and peppers over yellow rice. Does anyone else's family add green olives to their yellow rice? My mom always did this growing up, and I think it's such a good flavor.

Dinner Tonight Cookbook Club #11 + 12

One of the very first races I ever signed up for (something like 17 years ago!) was the Springtime Tallahassee race. If you aren't local, Springtime Tallahassee is a huge event that takes place around April that includes a parade and a whole bunch of vendors. Spring time here is just stunning, and everyone loves to be outside this time of year.

We run almost every year, some doing the 5k and some doing the 10k. This year Blake and I opted for the 5k. Our schedules have just not lined up to train for any longer of a distance, but 10k is usually my preference.

It's a tough course! Tallahassee is very hilly, and this route includes a steep one. But, it's also really scenic and begins & ends in Cascade park.

The weirdest thing happened to me on this day. We were walking from the car down to the start line, and when I went to take the first step in a warm up - my back seized. Nothing like that has ever happened to me! It was very painful, and I could not get in a full breath.

In fact, once we corralled, I stepped to the side because I just knew I wasn't going to be able to do it. At the last second, I decided to walk it and just see what happened. Well, a few minutes in, I realized it hurt to walk, it hurt to stand still, and it hurt to run. So, I might as well run. I eased into it, and ran the slowest I have ever ran. In fact, Blake was literally walking next to me as I struggled to run.  😂

But, once we got going, my back relaxed a bit, and I just kept running. Still slow - but I never stopped. It's actually the proudest I've ever been in a race because it was truly a challenge to keep it moving.

We celebrated with our free beer and banana, and watched my Pop get his award. He is something like 85 years old, so he always wins a prize for his age group (pretty sure he's the only one out there!). He walks it, but gosh do I hope I'm doing that good at 85!

Race Report: Springtime Tallahassee 5k (2024)

Tuesday, April 16, 2024

This is a post I don't want to write. And, I probably won't get through typing it without crying. We had to say goodbye to our sweet Delly girl this past week at 13 years old. I'm not sure how to sum up her life, and words will fail if I try to convey just how much she was loved! We got her around our first anniversary, when I was still very young and lonely in a new town. She was literally the perfect dog. So easy to train, and she just wanted to be with us. I called her my shadow. She would be all comfy, and snoring softly, but if I got up - she was right with me.

We loved watching her with our niece and nephews. She adored them, and vice versa. Even when they were small - she was so patient, and didn't mind if they messed with her. And as they all got older, she loved to sit on top of them and awaited their affections.

When she was younger, Delly had the most gorgeous black coat I've ever seen. Just so shiny! We called her ham-tongue because inevitably her tongue would stick out, and it looked like a piece of ham.

She's been a big part of my blog too! She was just 3 years old when I started blogging under the name: Pugs, Pearls & Positivity.

Delly has had a tough year. Her mobility went way down hill with some kind of nerve issue, as well as arthritis. A couple of things helped - we started her on a new medication a few months ago and got her little toe grips to help her walk without slipping. Last year she also injured her eye and it took months to get it healed. In the last few weeks she just really started to decline. Her mobility was just so poor, and she began having accidents all the time, and then to top it all off she injured her good eye. (No idea how it happened.) With so little vision left it just became so clear that her life had become one big struggle.

It was the toughest decision to make, but we just knew it was time. Fortunately, we found an absolute angel of a mobile vet who helped us say goodbye in our own home. I'm am so grateful for that. Obviously, it was the hardest thing to experience, and I have cried every day. But, beyond just missing her absence, I have missed our puppy for a lot longer. Seeing your dog age is just so hard!

For a 20 pound little doggie, she sure took up a lot of room! We are still getting used to the quieter house. After all, we had 13 years of her noises and presence. I still keep thinking she's just at the other end of the couch.

We miss her dearly. The other pugs are doing ok. I'm glad we have them. If our house was empty, this would be so much harder. Bailey and Winston are mother and son, so they are really bonded to each other. Delly was bonded to me, so I don't think they are depressed or anything like some dogs can get when they lose their buddies. It may have also helped that they were here when we said goodbye to Delly, so it seems that they have a sense of what happened to her. I have noticed they are much more cuddly to me than usual - but that may just be because the space is available now.

Ugh, I've just been so sad. Although I sobbed in the days leading up to, and the first few after - it is getting better each day. But, I still think about her constantly. Putting her things away was terrible, so I stopped, and ended up just leaving out her leash and harness. I'll get to that later on. I even cried sweeping up one night, thinking how one day I'd sweep up the last of her hair. (Dramatic? probably - but I'm letting myself have that one.) Truthfully, there is so much of her hair everywhere - I think I will keep finding it literally forever. 😂

We've had so many sweet friends reaching out to us. It's one of those things that if you get it, you get it. It's a sad little club to be in. And actually, one of my best friends just had to say goodbye to their dog that they got around the same time as Delly, right around their first anniversary as well. It's cool(?), or maybe nice is a better word, to be walking the same path as someone else in that way. I'm grateful that my friends have been there to listen to me.

Blake's boss was so sweet and let him work from home for a couple of days during this. We had preplanned to have 2 sets of company come and stay that weekend, and I'm glad we went ahead with our scheduled programing. It was super nice to have friends nearby and to keep us distracted with a full house. The world keeps turning, ya know.

Well, I only teared up once typing this all out, so I consider that a win. Thanks for being there for me, and letting me grieve here in my little corner of the internet.

We were able to get one last family photo 💖

Saying Goodbye to Delly

One | Charcuterie

Just a girl and her charcuterie! I love putting boards together - it looks impressive but it's so easy! A friend asked me to make a charcuterie for a bridal shower and I was so excited to do it. (I was also really excited to take the leftovers home and eat them myself.)

Two | Bread Making

I experimented a bit with sourdough, and it turned out ok. A fun little experiment at the very least! My sister told me she had a bread maker she hasn't been using and I was all to eager to give it a go. It's so much easier than feeding a starter! 😂 You just dump the ingredients and press start. I love it and the bread turns out perfectly.

Three | Walking

Thank goodness for the extra daylight. I don't know why, but I feel like a completely different person now that the time has changed. Our neighborhood gets the most insane sunrises, and now I'm awake to see them! We had the most beautiful sunrise run the other day, and I just love these photos.

Four | Dress Pants

For the first time in my adult life, I found a pair of dress pants that actually look good on me! I have the hardest time with pants. The waist, butt, and the length have to be just right - and what a feat. This pair from J Crew Factory really checks the boxes for me! I sized up, and went with tall and I feel like that really helped. I'm not that tall at 5'6 but my legs are just so long that most pants end up looking silly.

Five | 'Texting' With My Nephew

My almost 10 year old nephew is using an old phone and can now 'text' with google chat. His messages have just been such a bright spot in my day!
